Tenerife has several micro-climates. The south and south-west coast (Las Américas, Costa Adeje, Los Cristianos, Los Gigantes) is the sunniest and driest, because Mount Teide blocks much of the cloud carried by the north-east trade winds. The north coast around Puerto de la Cruz is a few degrees cooler and cloudier more often, and Santa Cruz and La Laguna can feel quite different again within a short drive.
Evenings out are mild for most of the year, which is why so much of the island's entertainment happens on open terraces — see what's on in Tenerife tonight. If it does turn wet, our rainy day guide has indoor ideas, and the Tenerife weather by month guide covers what to expect at different times of year.
Heading up Mount Teide? Temperatures at altitude can be near freezing even when the coast is warm, and the summit can be closed by wind or snow. Read the Mount Teide guide before you go.

Usually, yes. Las Américas, Costa Adeje and Los Cristianos sit in the rain shadow of Mount Teide and get more sun, while Puerto de la Cruz and the north catch the trade-wind cloud more often and are greener as a result.
The summit area is over 3,500 metres up, so it can be 15–20°C colder than the coast, windy, and even snowy in winter. Take layers if you are going up, and check the cable car is running before you travel.
The sea off the south coast is around 25°C right now. Through the year it typically ranges from about 18–19°C in late winter to 23–24°C in early autumn.
