Teatro El Sauzal is the municipal theatre of El Sauzal, a small town on Tenerife's north coast between La Laguna and Puerto de la Cruz. The Ayuntamiento de El Sauzal runs it, and it has built a reputation well beyond its size for contemporary theatre, comedy, music and touring productions from Spain and Latin America.
The theatre is best known for its Festival de Teatro Amateur, held every December since 2005 and regarded as one of the leading showcases for non-professional theatre in the Canary Islands. It has also hosted the Muestra Escénica Iberoamericana, with several European premières, plus comedy, monologues and concerts. Most performances are in Spanish, so it suits visitors who speak the language or enjoy music and visual shows.
Tickets are usually reasonably priced and are sold through the theatre's website. With a show at Teatro El Sauzal you can also take in the town's clifftop views and its restaurants before curtain-up.
