Café Teatro Rayuela is an intimate café-theatre on Calle Bethencourt Alfonso in the centre of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Spread over two floors and around 200 square metres, it combines a gastro bar with a multipurpose hall for live performances, and it grew out of the Rayuela arts school, which runs dance, music and theatre classes.
The monthly programme is varied. Jazz features strongly, including concerts and jam sessions, some of them part of the Canarias Jazz & Más festival, alongside singer-songwriters, guitar festival nights, stand-up comedy and improv theatre. Some events are free and others are ticketed.
It attracts a local crowd and is one of the more atmospheric places to catch live music or comedy in the capital. Most shows are in Spanish, although music nights need no translation. It is a short walk from the main shopping streets and squares of central Santa Cruz.
