Where to Watch Football in Tenerife
Updated 29 October 2026 · DoTenerife
The best places to watch football in Tenerife are the sports bars of Playa de las Américas, particularly around the Starco centre, followed by Los Cristianos, Costa Adeje, Golf del Sur and Los Gigantes. Most show Premier League, EFL, Scottish and European games on multiple screens, and because Tenerife is on the same time as the UK and Ireland, kick-off times are exactly what you are used to.
Many sports bars also host live music or quizzes after the final whistle, so a match can easily turn into a full night out. See what’s on tonight for the evening’s entertainment.
Tenerife time and kick-offs
The Canary Islands use Western European Time, the same as the UK and Ireland, and change their clocks on the same dates. Mainland Spain is one hour ahead. So:
- A 3pm Saturday kick-off in England is 3pm in Tenerife.
- A Champions League 8pm UK kick-off is 8pm in Tenerife.
- A La Liga match listed in mainland Spanish time will be one hour earlier in Tenerife.
If you are coming from elsewhere, check our time in Tenerife page.
Saturday 3pm games
The UK’s Saturday 3pm broadcasting blackout applies only within the UK. In Tenerife, many sports bars show those matches, which is a big draw for visiting fans. On a busy Saturday, a good sports bar might show several games at once on different screens. If you want a particular match, ask the bar a day or two before, especially for smaller clubs.
Best areas for sports bars
| Area | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Playa de las Américas and Starco | The biggest choice; large screens, lively atmosphere, busy for big games |
| Los Cristianos | Plenty of bars with screens, relaxed crowd, many regulars |
| Costa Adeje and Fañabé | Some bars with screens and terraces; hotel sports bars |
| Golf del Sur and Las Galletas | Local bars popular with long-stay visitors |
| Los Gigantes and Puerto de Santiago | Smaller choice, friendly community bars |
| Puerto de la Cruz | A few British and Irish pubs alongside Spanish bars |
Starco, Playa de las Américas
The Starco centre has several sports bars, including the long-running Lineker’s Bar, and is one of the best-known places on the island to watch a big match. Arrive early for derbies and finals. Read our Starco guide.
Los Cristianos
Los Cristianos has plenty of bars with screens, often with a slightly calmer crowd and good food. See the Los Cristianos nightlife guide.
Other sports
Most sports bars also show:
- Rugby union, including the Six Nations and Rugby World Cup
- Boxing and UFC (often late at night)
- Darts and snooker
- Formula 1 and MotoGP
- GAA in some Irish bars
- Golf majors and cricket in some venues
For Irish sport in particular, see British and Irish bars in Tenerife.
Major tournaments
During World Cups and European Championships, sports bars fill up quickly, and some put up extra screens on terraces. Book a table where possible, and expect a minimum spend on big nights. Many Spanish bars also show matches, especially when Spain play.
Watching CD Tenerife live
The island’s main club, CD Tenerife, plays at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium in Santa Cruz, and is in LaLiga Hypermotion, Spain’s second division, for the 2026–27 season. Going to a match is a good way to see local football culture. Tickets are sold through the club, and match days are usually confirmed only a week or two ahead by the league, so check before planning around a fixture. Santa Cruz is around an hour from the southern resorts by car or bus.
Family-friendly match viewing
Many sports bars in Los Cristianos, Costa Adeje and the family resorts welcome children during daytime and early-evening matches, especially if you are eating. Late kick-offs and big derbies in Playa de las Américas can get rowdy, so pick a restaurant-style bar or a hotel sports bar if you are with children. Some family hotels also show major games in their bars.
Tips
- Book or arrive early for big games.
- Check the bar is showing your match; with many games at once, they prioritise popular teams.
- Expect to buy food or drinks; there is no entry fee, but a seat comes with a spend.
- Be respectful of rival fans. Bars are shared spaces, and staff will step in quickly if trouble starts.
- Make a night of it. Many bars put on live acts after the match. Browse live bands for tonight’s gigs.
