Los Cristianos Carnival: South Tenerife's Biggest Carnival

The Carnaval Internacional de Los Cristianos is the biggest carnival in the south of Tenerife. It usually takes place in March, after Santa Cruz’s, with dance troupe contests, a Queen gala, a drag show, daytime street parties on the seafront and the Gran Coso Apoteosis parade on the final weekend. If you’re staying in Los Cristianos, Las Américas or Costa Adeje, it’s the easiest carnival to enjoy.

When is it?

The 2027 dates hadn’t been announced at the time of writing. For reference, here is how the 2026 programme ran:

Santa Cruz’s street carnival moves to 19–28 February in 2027, so Los Cristianos is likely to follow in March. Check Arona council’s channels for the confirmed programme and parade times.

What to expect

• Carnaval de Día: daytime street parties with music stages along the seafront — the best time for families.
• Gran Coso: floats, dance troupes and costumed groups parade through the town; the streets are packed.
• Burial of the Sardine: the traditional mock funeral and “widow’s dance” closes the carnival.

Tips

1. Wear a costume — fancy dress shops and the Sunday market sell wigs and outfits.
2. Roads close for the parades; walk or take a taxi rather than driving.
3. Arrive early for a spot along the seafront for the Coso.
4. Combine it with Santa Cruz carnival if your dates allow.
