Sunday Roast in Tenerife: Where to Look, What to Pay and How to Book

Updated 29 October 2026 · DoTenerife

You can find a Sunday roast all over the south of Tenerife, mainly in British and Irish-run bars and restaurants in Los Cristianos, Playa de las Americas, San Eugenio, Costa Adeje, Golf del Sur and Puerto de Santiago. Expect roughly €10–€18 for a plated roast with all the trimmings, and book ahead at popular spots, especially in winter.

Where to find a Sunday roast

The roast dinner scene follows the island’s British and Irish community and visitors, so it’s concentrated in the south and south-west.

We don’t recommend specific venues here because owners, chefs and menus change frequently. Use recent reviews and local expat groups to find this season’s favourites, and see our British and Irish bars guide for the areas they cluster in.

What’s usually on the plate

  • Meats: roast beef, chicken, pork with crackling, lamb, gammon, or a mixed plate.
  • Trimmings: Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, mash, seasonal vegetables, stuffing, cauliflower cheese at some places, and gravy.
  • Carvery: a few venues run a carvery with self-service vegetables, sometimes with a larger plate or all-you-can-eat option.
  • Dessert: crumble, sticky toffee pudding or ice cream is often offered as part of a deal.

How to spot a good roast

  1. Recent reviews and photos: look for crisp roast potatoes, proper Yorkshires and fresh vegetables.
  2. Busy at lunchtime: a full bar of regulars, especially long-stay winter residents, is a good sign.
  3. Booking needed: the best places often require it.
  4. Meat cooked on site: ask if they carve to order.
  5. Running out: some places sell out by mid-afternoon. That’s a good sign but go earlier.

Sunday timing

Roasts are typically served from around midday to late afternoon, though some places serve into the evening. Spanish restaurants often close on Sunday evenings or Mondays, but British-run bars in the resorts usually stay open.

Roast dinners at Christmas

Christmas Day is the busiest roast day of the year in the resorts. Many British and Irish bars and restaurants run set Christmas lunch menus with turkey and all the trimmings, usually at a fixed price and often with a deposit required. Book weeks ahead; the best places fill by early December. Hotels also offer Christmas lunch packages, which can be pricey but convenient.

Eating a roast in the heat

A Tenerife Sunday roast is often eaten on a terrace in 25°C sunshine, which is half the appeal for winter visitors. In the hotter months of July to September, look for venues with indoor seating or air conditioning if you want a heavy meal at midday, or go later in the afternoon when it cools down.

Booking tips

  • Book a day or two ahead, especially from November to April when long-stay winter visitors are on the island.
  • Ask about portion sizes: some places offer a smaller “senior” or light portion.
  • Mention dietary needs when you book, as gluten-free gravy and vegetarian options aren’t always available without notice.
  • Large groups: tell the venue in advance so they can set aside enough meat.

Roast plus football or live music

Many bars pair Sunday lunch with live sport on big screens; see where to watch football in Tenerife. Sunday afternoons and evenings also bring live acoustic sets, singers and tribute acts to plenty of bars in the south. Check what’s on tonight or browse the Los Cristianos area page for Sunday entertainment.

Want something local instead?

Sunday lunch is a big family occasion in Tenerife too. Try a traditional Canarian restaurant or a guachinche in the north for grilled meats, stews and local wine. See our best restaurants guide. For the morning before, there’s our guide to a full English breakfast in Tenerife.
